My 13 month old using sign language!

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

I love this stage of baby signing. My son is in the signing burst stage of baby signing… he can’t get enough. He’s at the point now that when I introduce a sign he can almost immediately reproduce it. He understands that I am teaching him a gesture that will represent something, so when I start signing, he watches and waits to see what I’m saying. Watch this video of Ben signing, he just turned 13 months this week.

I love my signing baby!

Ben just turned 8 months old and recognizes 5 signs and can sign 1.  This is so fun! I have three kids, so this is my third time personally teaching one of my children sign language and it is still so amazing.  I love the way Ben watches me and smiles with pride when he actively communicates with me.

Oh yeah, I thought you guys might enjoy watching this fun infomercial that I’m in.  Don’t make fun of me, I was major pregnant with Ben, but it’s fun to watch.

I hope everyone is having as much fun as I am signing with their babies.

Ben’s 7 Week Video

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Here is little Ben (really should be Big Ben as he is really packing it on) at 7 weeks. Although he isn’t quite ready to begin signing, he is developing well and is giving some of the key indicators that will let me know he is ready: he is starting to make and hold eye contact and he is starting to smile voluntarily.

I have worked with people using american sign language for many years.  To see the language development for those children using signing at an early age is phenomenal.  I have had years of experience watching many different children and understand how working with them in language development can improve their educational success.  Signing with your child is one of the best tools to use and is so much fun.  I signed with my own children when they were a little bit older, and I wish I would have started sooner.   They are starting now with their young 5 and 6 moth old babies.
